Sunday May 15th, at City Assembly Hal, Mayor Abraham Peña read the budget for the 2005-2006 fiscal years. For the upcoming twelve months, the municipality of Culebra was granted the sum of $4, 179,165.34 to be divided on the following areas:
It was also stated that all the projects done by the past administration would be completed, including the new elementary school, the second stage of the ferry docks, and the underground sewer lines, now leading to Barriada Clark. The Municipality has been granted the sum of $356,000 for the Public Library, internet service included.
For upcoming projects, City Hall would do an aggressive campaign on infrastructure, a housing project providing apartments affordable to Culebrenses, and expanding the wharf for commercial fishing, to be administered by the Culebra Fishermen Association.
As for the city debt, which rises to this day to the sum of $886,286, Banco Gubernamental granted City Hall the sum of 1,800,000 to be paid in ten years. This will guarantee the jobs of most of the citizens working under the Municipality.
