Monday morning started like any other morning at the public schools in Culebra.  The only difference was that instead of the blue uniforms our kids wear everyday, most of them were dressed in the traditional colors of love: red, pink and white.
After the morning classes were done and lunch was eaten, the real party began.  The Valentine’s Day activities led by Ms. Mariluz Perales and Ms. Rosa Rodríguez began with the procession of the kings and queens of hearts from each school.  Representing San Ildefonso were Miss Nicole Albert and Master Ricardo Arroyo; representing Luis Muñoz Rivera was Miss Katirialee Pérez ;representing Antonio R. Barceló Middle School were Miss Jayleen Morales and Master Steven Cruz and for the Antonio R. Barceló High School Miss Lissette Cedeño and Mister Jessay Espinosa.

After the crowning ceremony was done, the talent show began.  And what talent these kids had!!! From singing, to poetry, to interpretive dance, the kids were not shy at all to display what they have worked on for several weeks before the pageant.  The faculty was amazed to see children that usually are quiet to have amazing vocal abilities in singing. And to top the festivities, the children were treated to afternoon snacks and pieces of Valentine’s cake.

In the end, the pageant was not teachers leading students through their lines.  It became the outlet for hidden talents.  It became their stage to say “Here I am, and this is what I can do.”  In the end, they were the real stars.
