If you like fine dining you’ll love Juanita Bananas. Located on the hill above town, the chateau like restaurant overlooks the water with a beautiful view of Vieques. The walk up the driveway past the bananas, passion fruit, papayas, and flower trees leads to the open door where the subtle aromas drifting from the kitchen say “come in we’re expecting you!” I always try to single out the fragrances in anticipation of what may be on the menu tonight but with Juanita Bananas you’re always in for a treat. It’s only when the chef sends out the palette teaser that the aromas come together and you say ahhh that’s it! IT may be anise or rosemary or mint but whatever flavors dance across your palette [and they truly dance!] you can bet that they came fresh from the garden that day. The fact is that Jennifer Daubon is a superb chef {she has her bachelors of culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University} combine that with Javier’s home grown fruits vegetables and herbs and you have a delicious, delectable, dining experience. The lights are low, the music is soft, and the staff is outstanding. The food is as pleasing to the eye as the flavors are to the palette and Jennifer makes the best sushi I’ve ever had! –bar none. The deserts may leave you slightly euphoric but that’s ok especially if you’re sharing it with someone. Juanita Bananas is the place for a romantic night out! Make your reservation, bring your bottle of wine and prepare for a night of true bliss!
